PORT EDWARDS -- After the rigors of competing in its respective conference meets last weekend, the Port Edwards and Assumption track teams took part in a low-key meet on Monday.

The Blackhawks and Royals were joined by Bowler, Tigerton and Shiocton, and even though recovery was the name of the game, the Port boys set another school record.

Several boys records have fallen this spring and the 3,200 relay was the latest to drop by the wayside.

Phil Saeger, Zach Weidman, Tyler Steczynski and Simone Toppino ran to a time of 9:28.26 to shatter the previous mark of 9:44.2. The old record was held by Zach Neukirchen, Derek Rogers, Taylor Nix and Jordan Pinney since 2004.

Running in the event was somewhat of a surprise for all members, except for Weidman.

"I'm the only one who has run an 800 this year," Weidman said with a chuckle. "It was a laid back meet and it was cool to break a school record, but it really wasn't too tough of a record to break."

Added Saeger, "I'm still feeling sore from conference, so I wasn't too stoked to run an 800. I totally died, but it was good to get another school record."

The Port boys also won the 400 and 800 relays.

Assumption's Sam Veverka gave the Royals a pair of wins as he took the distance events. He ran to a time of 4:59.88 in the 1,600 and 11:17.75 in the 3,200.

"I'm satisfied with the times I've run so far this season," Veverka said. "It was nice to have a low key meet after conference and we've got one more before regionals (on Monday)."

Assumption's Erica Skerven won three events -- the 300 hurdles (1:04.61), the 1,600 (6;41.78) and the 3,200 (15:26.22).

Port's Connie Vang claimed the shot put (36-7.75) and the discus (112-3) to give the Blackhawks a double-winner.
