Prep roundup: Rapids baseball, softball beat D.C. Everest

WESTON -- Wisconsin Rapids put up multiple runs in four different innings en route to a 9-6 win over D.C. Everest in Wisconsin Valley Conference softball action Wednesday.

Rapids (5-3, 3-0 WVC) built a 9-1 lead in the battle of undefeated WVC teams, before Everest scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it closer.

Tasia Florence grabbed the win for the Raiders, striking out seven while not allowing a walk.

Jena Vruwink and Molly Pixler had two hits each for Rapids, which had eight overall.

Holly Edelburg was 3 for 4, Kelly Roble had a single and a triple, and Molly Newville had a single and a double for the Evergreens (4-2, 2-1 WVC).

Cody Knutson's RBI single to right field scored pinch runner Bobby Blom with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Raiders the victory.

Wisconsin Rapids matched Everest with two runs in both the second and third innings.

Kevin Bengsch picked up the win throwing a scoreless top of the seventh inning for the Raiders in relief of starter Brent Dobratz.

Josh Hoekstra took the loss for the Everest. He and starter Josh Henrich combined to strike out four, walk seven and allow five hits.

WAUSAU -- Brad Knoblock was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases to help the Cardinals to the Marawood Conference South Division victory at Athletic Park.

Ryan Schwanebeck was 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBI for the Panthers.

Newman led 4-0 before Pittsville rallied for six runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead.

The Cardinals retook the lead with a seven-run fifth inning as Luke Prososki and Knoblock combined to throw four straight shutout innings after the Panthers' uprising in the third.

Prososki struck out 10 in six innings to earn the win.

Becca Sigler had a goal and three assists, and Amanda Holewinski netted a penalty kick to cap the scoring as the Royals outshot Wautoma 29-1 on the way to the nonconference win on Monday.

Jada Staub and Hannah Osowski each added a pair of goals for the Royals.
