Brock brilliant in Royals' win
Daily Tribune Staff
Brittney Brock was her own best friend in Assumption's season opener Monday.
Brock threw a complete game and struck out 11, while going 2 for 2 at the plate and driving in three runs in the Royals' 9-1 win against Pittsville.
Brock had a shutout and no-hitter until the final inning.
"Brittany was throwing well, and got tired in the seventh," Assumption coach Jim Getzlaff said.
The Royals big inning was the fifth, when they put seven runs on the board.
Liz Martin went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Chelsey Brandel went 2-3 with an RBI for Assumption.
"Frr a first time out, with a lot of young kids, they got a few butterflies out," Getzlaff said.
