Prep basketball: Straub, Erdmann named to Marawood teams

Assumption junior Jada Straub was named to the all-Marawood Conference girls basketball team, and Royals senior Alex Erdmann was picked to the boys team, the conference announced Friday.

Auburndale senior Amanda Breu and Edgar junior Connie Urmanski received player of the year honors for the girls.

Both Breu and Urmanski were unanimously named to the first team for the girls. Breu received honors in the South Division, while Urmanski took the award in the North.

Columbus senior Brenna Malovrh, Pittsville junior Carrie Lippert and Spencer senior Kenisha Phillips round out the South Division's first team.

Along with Urmanski, the North Division's first team includes: Wausau Newman Catholic seniors Val Schuster and Kelsey Finke, Marathon senior Abby Jo Baumann and Prentice junior Nikole Wildberg.

Edgar coach Betty Urmanski was named the North Division's coach of the year, while Assumption's Joe Birkhauser received the award in the South.

Boys
Auburndale senior Jared Bauer and Columbus senior Trevor Gorman each received player of the year honors in the South Division and were unanimously named to the first team.

Along with Erdmann, Spencer senior Jacob Day and Granton senior David Steinbach also received first-team honors in the South.

Assumption coach Gary Weisenbeck, and Columbus' Joe Konieczny each were named coaches of the year.

Rib Lake junior Aric Zondlo was named the North's player of the year, while Marathon coach Jeff Reiche received coach of the year honors.

Marathon senior Wade Paul, Newman senior Matt Barr, Prentice junior Don Anderson and Rib Lake junior Michael Mann round out the North's first team.
