Roundup: Assumption wins across the board
Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 9, Mauston 1

MAUSTON -- Rebecca Sigler tied a Wisconsin Rapids Assumption school record with four goals as the Royals whipped Mauston 9-1 in non-league soccer action on Monday.

Also having a big day was Liz Sigler, scoring three goals, and Hannah Osowski, who had a goal and two assists.

"The conditions were not great for soccer and it was tough to get into a rhythm, we started to click," said coach John Bingham. "We only allowed one shot on goal. This was a great way for us to start out our season."

BASEBALL

Assumption 8, Stratford 4

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Two-run singles by Kyle Steele and Adam Irwin in the fifth inning were the only hits the Royals collected, but they were enough in the victory over Stratford.

The Royals used a six-run fifth inning and 10 Tiger walks to give them their baserunners and runs.

Ben Kinsel also pitched a strong game with 10 strikeouts and didn't walk a batter.

"Our pitching was solid all day from Ben (Kinsel) and Tyler (Hafermann),'' said coach Mike Schulte. "They struck out 15 while walking only three.''

Rosholt 8, Port Edwards 2

ROSHOLT — Rosholt put out a ragged but winning effort according to coach Jack Brooks as the Hornets overcame some early errors with clutch hitting.

Biggest among Rosholt’s eight hits were Charlie Bembenek’s three-run triple in the fifth, part of a four-run inning for the Hornets.

Bembenek led Rosholt with a 3-of-4 day at the plate, Mitch Zdroik and starting pitcher Austin Klesmith also added two hits. Klesmith struck out eight batters on the mound.

Port Edwards got seven strikeouts from Ben Brundidge, who took the loss. Aaron Eichsteadt hit a double for Port.

SOFTBALL

ROSHOLT — Port Edwards pitcher Andrea Regalia probably wishes she could trade places with Chelsea Richter for one day.

Chelsea Richter pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in her first start of the season as Rosholt clobbered the Blackhawks 23-0 in five innings Monday in a CWC small school contest.

Richter helped herself out at the plate too, collecting four hits, with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored.

“With it being cold out, Chelsea had pretty good command and hit her spots,” said Rosholt coach Tom Fields. “And we came out and swung the bats pretty good.”
Jeanie Limberg, Brianna Hahn, who scored four runs, Nichole Wierzba and Elizabeth Larson all had two hits to pace a 16-hit attack.
