Like a pair of bookends, Hannah Osowski and Ellie Raulin gave Wisconsin Rapids Assumption/Port Edwards a solid 1-2 scoring punch during WIAA tournament action on Thursday.

Osowski, a freshman and Raulin, a senior, scored two goals each in the Royals' 5-2 Division 3 regional semifinal victory over Sevastopol/Gibraltar at a soggy Washington Field.

Assumption will makes its fifth straight regional final appearance at 5 p.m. Saturday at Menasha St. Mary Central. The Royals have met the top-seeded Zeyphyrs the past two years, losing in the 2005 sectional final and last year in the regional title game.

Less than two minutes into the game, Osowski gave the Royals the lead for good with her first goal.

"It was great to get an early goal because in our last game we were down 2-0 and had to fight back," Osowski said. "It really helped to get the momentum going our way early in the game."

Raulin struck with less than five minutes to go in the half to put the Royals up 2-0 at halftime.

The two-goal deficit proved to be too much for the Pioneers to overcome and by the midway point of the second half, they trailed 4-0.

"They're a good team and they played well today," Sevastopol coach Dan Clark said. "They attack well and distribute the ball well. We got a couple late goals, but it was too late by then."

Gusting wind and hard rain aside, the Royals also had to get the job done without starting goal keeper Kristie Barrette, who was injured in Tuesday's game.

Stepping in for the senior keeper was freshman Carly Swank.

"It was a big loss to lose our starting keeper right before the playoffs started, but Carly and the girls stepped up," Assumption coach John Bingham said. "We had a lot of scoring opportunities we didn't convert, and as it turned out it was just a matter of time before we started to find the net."

Osowski and Raulin scored one more goal each in the second half, and Becca Sigler also tallied a goal.

"We just kept pounding away because after those first two goals we had confidence and we knew we could do it," Osowski said. "Hopefully we can continue to play good offense and defense and see how far a run we can make."

Molly Dickson scored both goals for Sevastopol, the first on a direct kick and the other on a corner kick.
