Prep roundup: Pittsville track battles with Newman at home invite

PITTSVILLE -- Dillon Lilly won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, one inch and Pittsville also won the 4x800 -- and 4x200-meter relays as the host Panthers boys track team finished just behind Newman for the team title Monday.

On the girls side Carli Kronstedt won both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs for the Panthers, who also finished a distant second behind Newman.

The Assumption girls finished third.

NEKOOSA -- Keith Bowden and Eric Brost combined for a one-hit shutout and Alex Tuttle hit a two-run homerun as the Papermakers crushed the Royals.

"Keith looked excellent setting the tone right away striking out the first five batters he faced," Papermakers coach Travis Zellner said. "Our pitching and defense were really good today."

Alex Erdmann had the lone hit for Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.

NEKOOSA -- Bri Kobishop led the Papermakers with a 3 for 4 day and a triple, and both Ashley Tuttle and Tessa Linzmeirer had two hits, but Nekoosa shot itself in the foot on defense and on the mound.

Thirteen walks surrenedered and six errors in the field doomed Nekoosa in this one.

BRF pitcher Christine Mach also came up big, striking out seven batters and hitting 4 for 6 with two doubles at the plate, three other BRF players also had two hits on the day.

NEKOOSA -- Wisconsin Dells had three of the top five individuals at Lake Arrowhead and sits in first after the first of six legs of the conference tournament.

Logan Dahlke earned medalist honors with a round of 39.

Adams-Friendship's Cody Correll had a team best 47, and Nekoosa's Cole Peissig shot a 48.
