Prep roundup: Assumption shuts out Auburndale

AUBURNDALE -- Winning pitcher Jada Straub scattered six hits and struck out 13 as the Royals blanked Auburndale 8-0 in Marawood Conference action.

Liz Martin went 3 for 4 at the plate, with a double and a run scored, to pace a 13-hit attack for Assumption against Auburndale starter Jenna Richardson, who walked three and fanned five.

Brianna Novotny had two hits for Auburndale.

WILD ROSE -- Molly Burgeson had a 3 for 4 hitting performance while Andrea Regalia and Jenna Brundidge each made two hits but Wild Rose scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and took control of the game.

Brundidge took the loss but she pitched the complete game, striking out three and walking three.

NEKOOSA -- Chase Coyer belted a three-run home run and Ethan Brundidge had a double and triple, but the Papermakers were unable to shut down Wisconsin Dells in the South Central Conference contest.

Nekoosa visits Westfield on Tuesday.

MARATHON -- Pittsville could muster only two hits falling to the Raiders.

Cole Petersen hit a three-run homerun part of a nine run Raiders first inning. Marathon romped the Panthers.

"We had a few key hits when we needed 'em, but the most important thing is that we got good pitching and good defense," Raiders coach Steve Warren said.

WILD ROSE -- With two outs in the 10th inning Jeff Reinke and Zach Koosmann reeled off hits and set Port up to score the winning run after two errant Wild Rose throws.

Koosmann pitched for the win and got two hits on the day. Matt Weller and Aaron Eichsteadt led Port with three hits apiece. Adam Neve, Matt Corbitt and Reinke also added two hits apiece.

Port returns to action today at home against Marion.

WESTON -- In the only match to go to three sets, the Raiderds' Ben Jeffrey pulled out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Jared Henke at No. 2 singles in the Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet delayed 45 minutes by rain.

"I was proud our players kept their focus and a business as usual mindset," said Rapids coach Barb Mancuso.

MARATHON -- Joe Lownik easily won medalist honors with a 4-over par 75, leading Assumption to the team title by one shot over Marathon in a meet at Pine Valley Golf Course.

Jake Jansen had an 82 for Marathon, taking second over John Adams of the Wausau West JV team, who was third with an 83.

Port Edwards' boys finished fifth in its meet, it won the 400 meter relay with a time of 46.80. Billy Lobner of ninth place Wisconsin Rapids Assumption won the 400 run with a time of 55.54.
