Library Corner~ 2007-08 School Year

It is already time for Christmas Break! The first part of our school year has simply flown by. Some of you have dropped off new and used books over the summer. For that, I say Thank You! I have been busy putting those donated books on our shelves for the children to check out. They love it when new books arrive and get very excited about reading them.
We held our very first Battle of the Books in November! What fun the students had forming their teams and choosing their team names. The books were flying off the shelves as each team developed their strategy and then got busy reading. The battle began as teachers, Father Al and myself read questions to each grade about the books from their list. It was very exciting and the children were amazed at themselves as they answered question after question about the content of each book. Teamwork and good sportsmanship was the key to the afternoon. It was truly a success as the winning teams were given the opportunity to walk to Book World and choose brand new books for the library. What great fun we had, and I look forward to the Battle of the Books becoming an annual event here at OLQH!
Soon we will be coming up on a new year, and with that brings Catholic Schools Week. If you find yourself visiting OLQH during Catholic Schools Week, stop in at the Scholastic Book Fair and take a look around. You are sure to find something for those enthusiastic readers in your family.
Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
