Assumption High School/Middle School Academic Support Center

Purpose

The purpose of the Academic Support Center is to provide support for our students, parents, and faculty.

Goal

The goal of the Academic Support Center is to improve overall school academic performance.

Objectives

  • To identify students with learning difficulties
  • To accommodate those with learning difficulties
  • To build skills with an individual-student focus
  • To bridge classroom instruction and student work
  • To provide assistance with homework
  • To provide alternative education opportunities
  • To communicate with parents regarding student academic performance

High School

The Academic Support Center Staff will communicate closely with the guidance office, teachers, administrators, students, and parents to determine who will be assigned to the ASC at least one period a day. The ASC will provide the help necessary for student success. The ASC staff will provide teachers timely updates for struggling students, and the ASC staff will contact parents as needed. The ASC will work as a liaison between student, teacher, and parents to accomplish academic success.

Middle School

In addition to the above, the ASC will provide tutoring using high school student volunteers.

  • Hard-copy reference books
  • Copies of class textbooks
  • Project materials and access to assignment requirements
  • Library materials will also be used for additional support on an as needed basis.

The ASC is not merely a study hall. The ASC will not be used to administer tests or quizzes to students missing due to an absence. However, a student who is chronically absent or has an extended absence can be assigned to the ASC to complete work or catch up as needed. The ASC is an assistance to teachers with students who are missing work or consistently handing in sub-par work.
